The Cabin In The Woods (2011)

Wanted to pop on and write a review about an awsome film I watched last night: 'The Cabin in the Woods'.

Genre: Horror
My Rating: 9/10
Scare Factor: 8/10
Gore Factor: 10/10
Humour level: Medium
Suspense level: High
Rated: 15
Cast: Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison.

5 friends decide to spend a few nights in a cabin in the woods. However after reading from a diary found in the creepy basement, they are then terrorised by some unwanted visitors back from the dead. Little do they know that they are being watched and controlled by a team who specialise in human torment and sacrifice.

This is just a snippet of the storyline but really there is a lot more to it and little secrets are revealed as the movie progresses. Now i found this film terrifying because the one thing that scares me is zombies or dead corpses, anything like that. Don’t get me wrong I still watch them and get a thrill from being scared but if you’re like me and freak when you see something rise from a grave, then you will be shaking with this film.
Now before I watched this film my friend warned me about something and I think I should do the same for you. The characters are all very stereotypical: the slutty girl, the jock, the stoner etc. but it is key for the storyline! Kind of hard to explain but once you watch the film you will understand so stick with it, even though it seems stupid at first!

It’s also a very gory film but if it wasn’t it wouldn’t be as good. Now even if you don’t get as scared as I did, it’s a cracking storyline with great twists to keep you entertained! I hope you all enjoy it as much as me!

Orphan (2009)

Im sorry its been so long, but just want to say hi to my first follower! Make sure and recommend me to your friends and everyone get commenting! Ok so lets review an unltra creepy film: 'Orphan'

Genre: Horror
My Rating:   8/10
Scare Factor: 8/10
Gore Factor:   7/10
Humour level: Low
Suspense level: Medium
Rated: 15
Cast: Vera Farmiga, Peter Sarsgaard, Isabelle Fuhrman.

After loosing their baby, a couple decide to make a new addition to the family and adopt an orphan named Esther. At first she gets along well with the family and their two children but soon sick and twisted events start to happen and the mum seems to think that Esther is behind it. When she finds out that the orphanage Esther was supoosed to have come from has no record of her, the mum has to convince her husband that Esther isn't who she says she is to protect her family before it's too late.

This film is creepy as hell! Lets just say that Esther has a secret that you will never guess and when you find out, it's shocking! something to warn you about is that this film doesnt have much blood and gore in it at all but the opening scene leads you to think otherwise. It's very disgusting at first but the rest of the film gives you chills and thrills without horrifying gore so stick with it!
I think the film has different scare levels for different people because i've seen way scarier movies but yet I have heard from a few people that they were terrified of this film. I think it depends on what scres you... if creepy little girls with an blank stare give you the creeps, then you will absolutely get a scare from this film. However i recommend that everyone watch it because it is a fantastic film with a great storyline and a real pleaser for any scary movie fan!

Scary Movie Fact

Hey scary movie fans! A new post is coming your way soon but until then I wanted to post this fun fact I heard on the radio this morning. Apparently when watching a scary movie we burn 200 calories! :o This is because of the adrenaline rush we get from watching them. Not to mention the fact we jump at scary movies too so that will probably burn off some more as well! Therefore you can all feel less guilty now when munching popcorn at the movies cause u know you will burn some of it off anyways! Anyway I'll put up a new post in the next few days. Bye for now!

White Noise (2005)

Hey scary movie people! heres my next post and we are going for a horror! It's the chilling 'White Noise'.

Genre: Horror
My Rating: 9/10
Scare Factor: 9/10
Gore Factor: 6/10
Humour level: Low
Suspense level: Medium
Rated: 15
Cast: Michael Keaton, Deborah Kara Unger and Ian McNeic.

In this film, a man finds out his wife has gone missing and when he tries to move on he is found by a man who claims he has been talking to her from the other side through white noise. Although he resists at first, he develops an obsession with using white noise to contact his wife but soon learns there are other things contacting him and they dont like to be disturbed...

The first time I watched it was back when I was terrified of scary movies (oh how times have changed!) and I was forced to watch this against my will at a sleepover. At that time it was terifying so now that I watch them all the time I wasn't sure how scary I would find it! At first I was sitting bored waiting to be scared but completely jumped out of my skin when the first jump came, and I never stopped!

Whats the point of this wee story? It's to warn you that for the first 20 mins or so you will be sitting waiting for something to happen but stick with it cause it does get really good! As well as jumping every few minutes the storyline becomes perfectly creepy which gives you chills and leaves you terrified therefore making the scare factor a 9/10! Though one thing I will say is that you will be so sick of the sound of white noise by the end of the film.

I wouldn't worry too much about the film being bloody, some scenes have broken bones etc but its not until the end when it gets more shocking. Anyway give this one a try if you want a movie that makes you jump and scream!

The Client (1994)

Ok gang! it's time to look at one of my all time favourite thrillers: 'The Client'.

Genre: Thriller
My Rating:  10/10
Scare Factor: 2/10
Gore Factor:  1/10
Humour level: Low
Suspense level:  Medium
Rated: 15
Cast: Susan Sarandon, Tommy Lee Jones, Brad Renfro.

The client is about an 11 year old boy Mark (Renfro) who witnesses the lawyer of the mafia commit suicide. Before this happens the lawyer tells Mark that he knows where a body is burried. Unfortuantely for Mark, it isn't long before the police know that Mark has this information and interogate him. As if that isnt enough, the mafia are also aware Mark has the information and are after him as well. With all this pressure from the police and fear for his life, Mark locates lawyer Reggie (Sarandon) who accepts Mark as her client even though all he and his family can afford to pay her is one dollar! From then on, Reggie has to find a way to save Mark from being sent to prision and being killed.

What a fantastic storyline! No it isn't a blood and gore film and no it doesnt have a serial killer on the loose but for anyone who enjoys thrillers, you can't get much better than this! The acting in it is fantastic especially from Tommy Lee Jones who plays the part of a big-headed and purposeful investigator to a high standard. And i promise you that you will have fallen in love with young Brad Renfro by the end of the film due to his bravery and quick wit! If your looking for a great thriller that you will be talking about for days, dont look a second longer, this is it!

What Lies Beneath (2000)

Ok so we are gonna look at a slightly older film now but dont doubt it's not scary cause this film will make you jump out your seat! It's: 'What Lies Beneath'.

Genre: Horror/Thriller
My Rating:  8/10
Scare Factor: 7/10
Gore Factor:  2/10
Humour level: Low
Suspense level: High
Rated: 15
Cast: Harrison Ford, Michelle Pfieffer and Katherine Towne.

This to me is a classic scary movie! It's another film which ive watched several times and never get tired of it.

Claire (Pfieffer) becomes paranoid thinking there is a ghost haunting her house when strange noises and events start to happen. At first she believes it is to do with the neighbours next door, but after further investigation, its a much darker secret than she thought!

Ok first of all, with two great actors such as Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfieffer you know its going to be good. But the storyline in this is fantastic: intense, surprsisng and totally unpredictable! It's your classic mystery murder film... who died and who killed them?
The gore factor is really low in this film cause there arent any bloody scenes in this film to scare u, it doesnt need it! There are hundreads of jumps in this film and an insane twist which makes it so enjoyable for anyone who loves a good spook!

Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Right its time took look at a fantastic film, and no its not a horror this time, its a spoof! Enter: 'Shaun of the Dead'.

Genre: Comedy
My Rating: 10/10
Scare Factor: 1/10
Gore Factor:  4/10
Humour level: High
Suspense level:  Med
Rated: 15
Cast: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Kate Ashfield.

Ok so this is my first spoof review so some people might be wondering why this is on a scary movie review list. Well my fellow movie lovers even films with a scare level as low as 1/10 can still be amazing just as long as they have a kick-ass storyline!

I wouldn't recommend that you watch 'Dawn of the Dead' first (the scary version of this film) cause honestly you dont need to! I found it a really boring which is why this is the only review you are getting of that film. I watched 'Shaun of the Dead' without seeing it and can assure you that you will love it!

Two friends are put to the test when their whole town becomes taken over by zombies. And although they are oblivious at first, they soon realise that their only option is to hide out somewhere safe. And what do they come up with? The local pub!

I think ive seen this film at least 5 times because of two reasons: 1. I still laugh out loud when I watch it because the humour in it is so brilliant and 2. because if I'm with someone who hasnt seen it, I have to put it on! There is just enough suspense level to keep all you intense horror lovers entertained with occassional gore, just like any other zombie film!

Honestly don't be put off by the fact it's a comedy, cause everyone needs a laugh every now and then... even you!

Don't think I can say anymore to make you watch it, but here is the trailer in case you need anymore convincing ;)

Mirrors (2008)

For those of you who like really scary movies, check out 'Mirrors'.

Genre: Horror
My Rating: 10/10
Scare Factor: 10/10
Gore Factor: 10/10
Humour level: Low
Suspense level: High
Rated: 15
Cast: Kiefer Sutherland, Paula Patton and Amy Smart.

Suspended police detective Ben decides to take on a job as a night manager at an old shopping centre which was closed years ago due to a fire. He learns that the previous night manager was fascinated by the mirrors located in the centre! He then develops a simliar obsession as the mirrors seem able to harm both him and his family. It is then up to him to find the mirrors what they are after and put an end to their terror!

This film definitely isn't for the faint hearted. What's great about it is that from the moment it starts you are lead into suspense and gore giving you an immediate taste of what's to come! The very first time I watched this, the TV was very close to being turned off because the killings in it were too vivid for my liking! However I found myself unable to tear myself away from the screen due to the chilling storyline. Like a detective movie, Ben is given clues and demands from the mirrors which he must solve in order to stop them and this forces you to watch all the way to the end, just so you can see how it all fits together! This terrifying film gets a 10/10 from me!

The Descent (2005)

Now its time to look at a more terrifying film and 'The Descent' will certainly leave you shaking!

Genre: Horror
My Rating: 7/10
Scare Factor: 9/10
Gore Factor: 10/10
Humour Level: Low
Suspense Level: High
Rated: 18
Cast: Shauna Macdonald, Natalie Mendoza, Alex Reid.

After losing her family in a tragic accident, Sarah is persuaded by her friends to go on an adventure climbing in a cave. They soon become trapped and realise that they are in the wrong cave and no one will come looking for them. Their only choice is to keep moving to find a way out. However it soon becomes clear that they are not alone down there...

First thing I wanna say is this is a good movie. If you love hard core horror films then you will not be disappointed with this one. However it did take a long time to get going; I felt myself drifting off  waiting for them just to reach the cave. Also once they were in the cave, the pressure of being trapped and the claustrophobia from the setting would have been enough to make it an intense and frightening film. When the 'crawlers' arrived I felt it was a bit much and all it did was make the film more gory! I myself dont enjoy films with a lot of blood and gore in them so it lowered the enjoyment level for me. But if you like a movie with bones sticking out of body parts and skin being torn open, then you will definitely get a kick out of this film. But overall because the suspense was so high I enjoyed it, even if the acting in it wasnt 100% amazing!

The Woman in Black (2012)

This is a very recent film but I felt I had review it as it is very misleading on the scare level! It is 'The Woman in Black'.

Genre: Horror-Thriller
My Rating: 7/10
Scare Factor: 8/10
Gore Factor: 4/10
Humour Level: Low
Suspense Level: High
Rated: 12
Cast: Daniel Radcliffe

This film is about a man, Arthur (Daniel Radcliffe), who visits a town which is haunted by a ghost known as 'The Woman in Black'. Legend has it that whenever she is spotted, something horrible happens to one of the children in the town. It is then up to Arthur to discover the cause of the curse and put an end to the haunting.

For those who dont know, this film is rated a 12! Now I dont know what has happened to ratings but maybe people dont get scared as easily anymore and so ratings have been reduced. Why am I saying this? Because after watching vast amounts of horrors and thrillers I can tell you that this film is right up there as one of the scariest. Not because its full of torture or blood or anything, but the jumps in it are horrendous and are enough to leave you shaking! My friend who loves scary movies was so shaken by this movie she asked to turn it off half way through and watch something 'cheerful'. So if you are looking for a film that makes you jump... without a doubt this is the film for you!

Disturbia (2007)

Lets look at one not-so-scary film now for all you movie lovers who like a little bit of scare and a whole load of laughs. One of which is 'Disturbia'.

Genre: Thriller
My Rating: 9/10
Scare Factor: 3/10
Gore Factor: 2/10
Humour Level: High
Suspense Level: Medium
Rated: 15
Cast: Shia LaBeof

This movie is perfect for anyone who isnt too keen on hard core horror movies as it eases you in gently to scary movies. I can confirm that my 14 year old cousin who refuses to watch any horror movie managed to watch this film all the way to the end and said it was one of the best she had seen!

A troubled teen, Kale (Shia LaBeof), is put under house arrest and through his boredom develops two obsessions: The girl next door and the thought that his other neighbour is a serial killer. After bonding with the girl, the two work together to take him down.

At the beginning of this movie there is a shocking event to capture your atention but the main bulk of the movie is fairly light hearted and funny as he tries to win over the heart of the new girl next door. Occasionally there are a few jumps and spooks here and there but nothing too intense. However in the last twenty mins the suspense is kept high as the truth is revealed. By the time you reach this part, you will be hooked and it will be impossible to look away. The gore level is kept to a minimum and so is perfectly suitable for the squeemish, therefore this film is enjoyable for everyone who loves scary movies!

Final Destination 1-5 (2000-2011)

Ok so im gonna try and kill five birds with one stone here. These five films have the same basic storyline and yet vary on enjoyment level. If you have heard of films all about how you can't cheat death, the you have probably guessed... It's the 'Final Destination' series!

Lets start with the overall plot which can make just about anyone want to watch it.
Each film starts with some major disaster: a plane crash; a roller coaster malfunction; or even a bridge collapse. However, there is always one person who can see it all before it happens, therefore allowing themselves and several others to survive: so they 'cheat death'. But you learn fast that death doesnt like to be cheated as, one by one, the survivours start dying in horrible circumstances. This means its a race against time to find out how to stop death before it comes for them all.
Even with this intense storyline, there is still minor comedy in a few moments in each film. I should warn you, once you watch one, you will be hooked!

Final Destination 1 (2000)
Genre: Horror
My Rating: 10/10
Scare Factor: 9/10
Gore Factor: 8/10
Humour Level: Low
Suspense Level: High
Rated: 15
Cast: Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Kerr Smith, Sean William Scott, Tony Todd.

This film is definitely scary to those who have never seen a Final Destination before! The suspense is kept so high as you can sense when death is coming for one of them but it is hard to prepare yourself for how it will get them. Now because there is so much death involved, you have to be prepared to see some blood and gore. However I lowered the gore factor to an 8/10 due to the fact that in the year 2000 movies were still using the cheap fake blood... which kind of looks more like spilt tomato juice than bleeding. This film is definitely not one to miss!

Final Destination 2 (2003)
Genre: Horror
My Rating: 8/10
Scare Factor: 8/10
Gore Factor: 9/10
Humour Level: Low
Suspense Level: High
Rated: 15
Cast: A.J.Cook, Michael Landes.

If you liked the last film, you will love this one too! The storyline in this film has originality to the others as it links back to the last film in a way that is very clever, along with some good twists. Unfortunately, I felt the disaster in it was a major dissapointment as it seemed a lot less frightening than the last. Also the scare factor is reduced due to the fact you know how the system works after watching the last film and can kind of guess what is gonna happen. However the gore factor is increased due to the more graphic and disgusting deaths. A definite crowd pleaser for any suspense lover!

Final Destination 3 (2006)
Genre: Horror
My Rating: 10/10
Scare Factor: 10/10
Gore Factor: 10/10
Humour Level: Low
Suspense Level: High
Rated: 15
Cast: Mry Elizabeth Winstead, Ryan Merriman.

I recommend you watch these films in order but if your not a fan of all the fake blood and poor resolution of the older films, this is a good film to satrt at. The disater is brilliant and may make you think twice before going on your next roller coater! The originality in this film comes from the use of pictures as clues to how they may die, meaning you can guess or at least have some warning to when a death is about to happen! The gore and scare factors have been pushed up to 10's as the deaths in this film are way more bloody and shocking than the other films. In fact one of the deaths in this film has been said to be one of the most horrifying ways to die on television. If you dont wanna watch it, look away when you see sunbeds!

Final Destination 4 (2009)
Genre: Horror
My Rating: 5/10
Scare Factor: 8/10
Gore Factor: 9/10
Humour Level: Low
Suspense Level: High
Rated: 15
Cast: Bobby Campo, Shantel VanSanten, Mykelti Williamson.

This film, also known as 'The Final Destination', was a real letdown. The disater in it seemed like they had run out of ideas and so went with something that seemed very unlikely to happen, and therefore the scare factor is lowered. However it still receives an 8/10 for scare because, lets face it, it's still a Final Destinaton film. The storyline lacks originality from the others with the only difference being that two premonitions take place rather than one, slightly dissapointing if you ask me.

Final Destination 5 (2011)
Genre: Horror
My Rating: 8/10
Scare Factor: 8/10
Gore Factor: 10/10
Humour Level: Low
Suspense Level: High
Rated: 15
Cast: Nicholas D'agosto, Emma Bell, miles Fisher, Arlen Escarpeta, David Koechner, Tony Todd.

Computer graphics are taken to a whole new level in this film. The disaster is well executed and creates plenty of suspense in the first few minutes. However the gore is a perfect 10/10 with every death making you cry out in disgust! What truly made this an enjoyable film for me, is the many clever twists which occur throughout which I never saw coming. If you are wondering how there can be another 'Final Destination' after 'The Final Destination', the ending to this film will surely clear things up for you. A clever and well thought out ending to a terrifying series!

House Of Wax (2005)

Now let's review one of the first Horror movies I ever watched: 'House Of Wax'.

Genre: Horror
My Rating: 7/10
Scare Factor: 7/10
Gore Factor: 8/10
Humour Level: Medium
Suspense Level: High
Rated: 15
Cast: Chad Michael Murry, Jared Padalecki, Elisha Cuthbert, Paris Hilton, Brian Van Holt.

House of wax is your typical remake of a horror movie. Same basic storyline but with some hot guys and a partially naked blonde thrown in. However, this is one remake that I think can pull it off!

Six friends decide to camp for a night after being taken on a detour on their way to a football game. After a strange visit during the night, they find they are unable to carry on together due to a failure with one of the cars. As the crew split up, two are taken to a odd town where they visit the town's famous 'House of Wax'. However as the movie progresses they find that the people in this town are not what they seem... It soon becomes a race for survival as they all try to exscape the town alive!

Now im not gonna lie, this film has both good and bad qualities. The best one? The Plot! This film has several twists in it and even some that you couldn't possibly have seen coming! I have never seen any other film with a similar storyline which gives it originality. Also: the cast! Now I dont know about you girls but I love any film that has a shirtless Chad Michael Murry! And along side him is his 'Gilmore Girls' co-star Jared Padalecki, the talented Elisha Cuthbert and of course, Paris Hilton. Which leads me to the bad... although the other actors gave a terrific performance, Miss Hilton needs to work on her acting for this film a little bit more. Although she is not horrible, it is hard to believe that this girl is truly terrified with all the weak screaming she does. But don't let that put you off because this film is a real nail-biter!

Now because of the storyline, the gore factor is high. So if you get squeemish at bloody scenes, you may want to keep a pillow handy! Now even though the suspense is high due to the wonderfully scary villans popping out whenever, there are several moments of light comedy to keep you going.

I say if you're looking for a film with a really good storyline and one that will leave you sleeping with the light on... this is for you!

The Crazies (2010)

Hey scary movie lovers! As this is my first blog I'd thought I'd start by telling you about one of my all time favourite scary movie: 'The Crazies'.

Genre: Horror
My Rating: 10/10
Scare Factor: 8/10
Gore Factor: 3/10
Humour level: Low
Suspense level: High
Rated: 15
Cast: Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell.

At the end of this film, I felt I could once again breathe easy; a function I had forgotten to do while watching it!
The Crazies is about a small town which unfortunately becomes a chaos zone when people begin going insane after catching a virus which leads to them killing even those closest to them. It follows the struggle of David, his wife and close friends as they try to escape the now quarantined town and all the terror within it.
I personally love any good virus film as I find myself guessing the whole way through: who has it? And this film certainly doesn't dissapoint! Not only are we holding our breath that they dont have it, we are also praying that each moment they find sanctuary there isn't a 'crazy' lurking around the corner!
This is a very intense film which reduces the humour to a minimum, so if you're looking for a laugh as well, you ain't gonna find it here! However with several shocking moments and plenty of surprises it will have you covering your face with a pillow as the suspense is kept constant throughout!
For all you people who get queezy at gory scenes I can tell you that isn't the focus of this film. The gore is kept to a minimum level but there are however a few bloody scenes which you may have to look away for!
This film is definitely a must for any scary movie fan!
